Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC is delighted to announce that Jackson Arley Martínez Valencia from Club Atlético de Madrid S.A.D has joined Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC for 42 million euros in a four-year deal on 3 February 2016. The Colombian striker will wear the No.9 shirt in the upcoming season, and will be arriving at Dubai on 9 February 2016 for the training camp after he passed the medical. Also Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC would like to announce that all signings in the 2016 winter transfer window are completed.

Born in October 1986, the 29-year-old striker started his professional career in Independiente Medellín and led the club to the league title before joining Chiapas in Mexico in 2009. His outstanding performance in Mexico immediately led to interest from FC Porto, and in 2012, Martínez signed with Porto for 8.8 million euros. The Colombian international scored 92 goals in 133 appearances during his three years in Portugal, which made him top scorer of Super Liga for a consecutive three years. The player had been reportedly linked with European top clubs and in 2015, he signed with Club Atlético de Madrid S.A.D.

Martínez scored his first international goal on 5 September 2009 against Ecuador in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, and was named in the Colombian national squad for the 2011 Copa América and the 2014 World Cup, scoring 10 goals in his 36 international appearances.

The singing of Martínez can be regarded as a milestone in the Second Five-Year Plan of the club. We believe that with the signing of top-tier players like Jackson Martínez, who will definitely strengthen the attacking ranks of the team, the level of Chinese football league can be improved dramatically.

And last, but definitely not least, we wish all fans a happy Chinese New Year!
